Batman

Batman is the creation of Bob Kane and Bill Finger. He first made an appearance in Detective Comics # 27 in 1939. Batman’s career as a comic crimefighter was a successful one in print, portrayed as an embittered and mean character with no remorse for the lives of criminals and often using firearms. This persona was ruined by a 60’s TV series starring Adam West, in which the character wore camp costumes and the storylines were dumbed down for younger consumption. The TV series portrayed only comedic slapstick violence and hammed dialogue. Frank Millar resurrected Batman again in 1986 with ‘Batman: The Dark Knight Returns’. This reinvigorated the dark side of the character and was again strengthened by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s 1988 Graphic Novel, ‘Batman: The Killing Joke’. Batman once again endures as a brooding character bent on destroying the criminality of Gotham City. 60 x 60 cm. £275
