The Mayans believed the Sun was hauled across the sky every day by the Sun God. They believed that the Sun God needed human hearts to give him the strength to do this. Every Mayan city had a temple where people would be put to death to satisfy this need. Copan was one such city. 40 x 50 cm. £140.
